Protect Your Arrows
It was narrated from Abu Musa (radi Allahu anhu) that Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "If one of you passes through our Masjid or our marketplace, with an arrow, let him hold it in his hand by its point, lest he harm one of the Muslims with it in some way." [#6665: The Book of Al-Birr: Sahih Muslim]
Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) narrated that Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "A Muslim is unlawful to another Muslim; his blood, his wealth and his honour." [#6541: The Book of Al-Birr: Sahih Muslim]
Each Muslim life is so sacred to Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) that He would rather have the Kaaba and its surroundings destroyed than the life of a single Muslim. What we see these days though is Muslim armies killing Muslims with bombs, missiles, guns and embargoes. All they feel the need to do is to put a label on the Muslim to make his or her blood lawful in their eyes. It is not the first time in history that Muslims are serving in the armies of the Kuffar, but it is strange indeed to have armies of "independent" Muslim countries bombing its own civilians.
Sheikh ul Hind Mehmood ul Hasan said in his fatwa, when Muslims served in the British army of occupied India: "The second form of killing a Muslim is when a person considers killing Muslims permissible and does not feel sorry or repent for this act. For example, if there is a Muslim army which says, 'Fighting is our job, so even if Muslims come in front of us, we will fight them,' as if raising a sword against a Muslim is no sin; or they say, 'Our masters have ordered us to fight Muslims, and we are fed by their money, so we should obey their orders,' as if there is nothing wrong in obeying someone's order to kill Muslims as long as he keeps feeding you... thus in such a condition, it is the agreed upon verdict (ijma) of the entire Ummah that the person committing such an act is surely and verily a kafir, and has committed the type of kufr that expels him from the Ummah.
"The third form of killing a Muslim is when a Muslim fights alongside the kuffar against other Muslims or aids them in war so that the kuffar attain success and victory, and when a war is waged between Muslims and non-Muslims, he sides with the kuffar. This form of the said crime embodies the gravest type of Kufr and transgression, and represents such an extreme condition of the death of a person's belief and annihilation of his Islam, that no worse form of infidelity and disbelief can possibly be imagined. All the sins, offences and impurities of the world and each and every kind of disobedience which a Muslim can commit in this world or can think of committing are nothing when compared to this crime! Any Muslim who commits this crime surely becomes a kafir; and is the worst kind of kafir. He has not only committed the sin of killing a Muslim, but has also aided and strengthened the enemies of the Truth in their fight against Islam. And there is no doubt that this is such an explicit and definite form of Kufr that it expels a person from the realm of Islam."
This fatwa was re-confirmed in 2008 by thousands of Ulema and Muftis of Pakistan. What is one to do? Simple: Don't kill or help in the killing of Muslims, nor aid or support killers of Muslims.
