Fast of Ashura

1. Ibn 'Abbas reported that when the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) fasted on the day of 'Ashura and commanded that it should he observed as a fast, they (his Companions) said to him: Messenger of Allah, it is a day which the Jews and Christians hold in high esteem. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: When the next year comes, God willing, we would observe fast on the 9th But the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) died before the advent of the next year.(So we muslims have fasting on 9 and 10 both) 2. Ibn'Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) arrived in Medina and found the Jews observing fast on the day of 'Ashura. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said to them: What is the (significance) of this day that you observe fast on it? They said: It is the day of great (significance) when Allah delivered Moses and his people, and drowned the Pharao

Animals O.K. to Kill

Hafsah (radi Allahu anha), the wife of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "The Messenger of Allah said, 'There are five animals for which there is no sin on the one who kills them: Scorpions, crows, kites, mice, and vicious dogs.'" [Sunan An-Nasai - graded sahih] In addition, the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) ordered the killing of geckos. Stepping on ants for no reason, killing or hurting those animals from which one receives no harm is sinful. But the above mentioned are animals from whose harm we have been told to protect ourselves.

Avoid Exaggeration

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Those who exaggerate will be ruined; those who exaggerate will be ruined; those who exaggerate will be ruined." [Sahih Muslim] Simple advice that we can start changing our lives with! Speech that is devoid of exaggeration is almost necessarily devoid of lying. For if a person is careful enough to avoid even exaggeration, it is not possible that they would be careless enough to lie. And one who avoids lying stays on the path to Jannah.

Best Deeds

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ood (may Allah be pleased with him), who observed: "I asked Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) which deed was the best." He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'The Prayer at its appointed hour.' I (again) asked: "Then what?" He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'Kindness to the parents.' I (again) asked: "Then what?" He replied: 'Earnest struggle (Jihad) in the cause of Allah.' I refrained from asking any more questions for fear of annoying him. (Sahih Muslim: 120) Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was asked about the best of deeds. He observed: "Belief in Allah." He (the inquirer) asked: 'What next?' He (the Holy Prophet) replied: "Jihad (struggle to the utmost) in the cause of Allah." He (the inquirer) again asked: 'What next?' He (the Holy Prophet) replied: "Pilgrima

One Hundred Good Deeds

Allah’s Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever says, ‘La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shai in qadeer’, one hundred times will get the same reward as given for freeing ten slaves; and one hundred good deeds will be written in his accounts, and one hundred sins will be deducted from his accounts, and it (his saying) will be a shield for him from Shaitaan on that day till night, and nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he.” [Sahih Bukhari] The meaning of this Kalima is: “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah (Alone) Who has no partner; to Him belongs the kingdom (of the universe), and for Him are all the praises, and He has the power to do everything.” All the sins we commit in life are because we don’t internally believe this. We believe other people and forces to be more powerful than Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). So we commit sins to please the boss, the children, the sp
